An excellent example of what French Call hotel de charme, the Antique Theatre offers luxury and comfort without sacrificing the personal touch. Its location is superb, commanding a stupendous panorama of Bodrum's harbour
with the medieval Crusader's Castle in the midst. The gourmet restaurant has been reviewed glowingly in the New York Times. The service is impeccable, relaxed and friendly. It is coloured by the presence of the hosts, a designer/art historian and an economist, who retreated to Bodrum from Istanbul's high-pressure tempo.
The hotel architecture reflects the cascading white steps of the ancient theatre of Halicarnassus which lies across the street. The garden manages to squeeze a large number of marvellously cosy spaces within a small area. The rooms, some of them different in size, including one two-bedroom suite, are decorated with understated elegance, using bone-coloured hand-woven fabrics, elegant candles, and old prints with a nautical theme. The pool is a marvel: At sunset, seems to float weightlessly above the spectacle of the bay.
